Jyotish, the Science of Light
Return to Your True Self

Jyoti means Light and Ish means the Lord, therefore it can be defined as Lord of the Light, the Source.

The source itself expands into different energies represented in the zodiacal houses and planets. Vedic Astrology or Jyotish is an ancient Indian science that enables us to understand how these divine energies (Planets) manifest or influence our life (Zodiacal Houses) and to determine to which extent we have evolved these divine energies in ourselves.

These 4 aspects of Life called Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha are analysed during the reading, observing the state of each planet in our chart, their interactions with the different houses and other planets, recognising how this affects us, especially examining the potentialities we have as we heal, evolve or reorder certain aspects of our lives.

Dharma refers to our purpose in life, the main reason for our incarnation.

Artha is related to our economic development and sustainment, both financially and the way we nourish our bodies, for our health and the vital energy we possess in life will depend on this.

Kama is connected to our desires, impulses and motivations in life to grow and go beyond our own horizons .

Moksha is the aspect related to liberation. In other words, how we prepare ourselves for transcendence, detachment and return to the spiritual plane having fulfilled our duties, as well as the desires and ambitions we have throughout life.

Difference between Vedic Astrology and Western Astrology.

The main difference between Vedic and western astrology is that Vedic or sidereal astrology use the real astronomical position of the planets in relation to the constellations, whereas the astronomical positions in western astrology become symbolic. Western astrology considers the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere (March 21st) as a reference to establish the zero degree of Aries constellation, without taking into account that the sun rises every day in a slightly different position in relation to the Aries constellation, moving slowly backwards in the zodiac at a rate of one degree in 72 years.

Thus, the passage of the sun and planets is constantly and progressively changing, a change that represents almost a zodiacal sign of difference over the last 2000 years. Back then, in the year 285, when western astrology was just beginning, the vernal equinox on 21 March coincided with the zero degree of the constellation Aries.

Therefore, the Vedic perspective allows us to see the real planetary influence by considering the actual position of the planets in the sky.
